FUT vs FUE: Achieving a natural look for your hair is the most important factor for a successful hair transplant. There has been much technical progress in the past few years for improving the quality of hair transplantation. Today, with a finer punch, large numbers of hair can be extracted and transplanted. FUE is a type of hair transplantation in which the method of extraction is different, but implantation is the same as FUT. It is a suture-less method of hair restoration in which hair follicles are extracted from the back of the head under local anesthesia with the help of special micro punches, and implanted in the bald area.
On the day of the surgery, the entire donor area from the back of the head is trimmed to 1–2 mm length. Local anesthesia is administered to the donor area. The grafts are extracted from the donor area with the help of 0.6 and 1 mm special micro punches. The grafts are then implanted in a fashion similar to FUT in the bald area, and have a similar recovery and growth course. The results, in FUT, can be appreciated about 6-8 months after the procedure.
FUE, as a procedure, has a role in a limited or small area to be transplanted, as the number of follicles which can be harvested is much smaller than that of FUT, and thereby cannot be used to cover very large bald areas. At Hair Transplant Laser & Beauty Clinic, both these techniques are used for transplantation depending on patients’ need. We have highly-skilled doctors who carry out hair transplantation successfully.
